A fine sportsman, his interest in sports was first awakened in 1972 when he started playing hockey. From the very start, his outstanding ability had been recognised and carefully nurtured. Thus it was not surprising that he represented SFI in the MSSM from 1974 to 1976, and the state in 1975.

These years 1977 and 1978 have spurred him to greater achievements and fame. A formidable player, he was one of the 22 membere squad of the Malaysian Junior World Cup which took place in 1977. He further represented Malaysian Kem Bakat against Pakistan.
Not surprisingly, he was also considered for selection in the senior team against Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). In 1978 he represented Malaysian Juniors against Belgium club. Chin has been acknowledged as a short corner specialist and is undoubtedly the most fearred hockey defender in the national Under 20 and Under 23 tournaments.
Chin’s interest in sports is not only confined to hockey. A versatile sportsman, he was also an impressive cricketter. True to form, he represented SFI in the MSSM in 1974 and in 1978 he captained the school cricket team. He is also a Fomasa house athlete.
