An all-round cricketer who has captained the cricket teams of Malaya, South & North Malaya, Selangor and of course, Malacca , he comes from a family of distinguished cricketers namely Mr. M.C Umapathy, Dr. Poopathy, Mr. Ruthirapathy Mr.Pasupathy and Mr. Sethupathy, all former pupils of M.H.S.
Kailas, as he is popularly known , represented M.H.S. at cricket before and after the war and it can be said that many cricket teams of our school of yesteryears were moulded round the outstanding ability of Kailas. After leaving the school as a student , he came back again as a teacher in the 1950’s. His talent and dedication to cricket easily earned him the post of cricket-master in the school.
And for this dedication and devotion to cricket , he was awarded the title of Justice of Peace in 1957 . One example of this devotion is when he came out of retirement to play for Negeri Sembilan. He was later conferred the title of P.J.K. by his Highness.
And now after two decades , this champion of our school is heading the English Department of the Malayan Teachers’ Training College, Kuala Lumpur. And to remind him of the great player he was , it should be noted that his record of 16 wickets for 39 runs in a M.C.A. match for Malacca against Negeri Sembilan (18.5.1952) still stands.
